[Finished] Redemption (BTS - Mafia AU)
  • Choi Yeonjun
  • *The next morning*
  • I paced around in the corridor, waiting for Namjoon to show up. ‘Is everything okay with you?’ Soobin asked and I nodded.
  • ‘Yeah but I don’t know how to explain it. I just have this gut feeling that it’s something important,’ I replied.
  • ‘Well he did sound a little serious when he sent for you this morning,’ Soobin asked. ‘Did you do something?’ he asked in a teasing manner.
  • ‘YAH!’ I yelled as I hit him on his arm. ‘You know I would not dare do anything. Besides, I wouldn’t even want to. Bangtan is my family and home,’ I said.
  • ‘I’m glad to hear that,’ a familiar voice said from behind me, making me jump slightly. ‘Though you got to work on being more aware of your surrounding Yeonjun,’ he said with a slight smile.
  • ‘Sorry sir,’ I said but he just chuckled. ‘Did something happen sir?’ I asked and he sighed.
  • ‘I have something important to talk to you about. Come inside my office,’ he said and I nodded. I looked at Soobin and waved at him as he gave a slight bow to Namjoon.
  • Soobin left and I followed Namjoon in his office. I closed the door behind me as I sat down on the leather chair, right in front of Namjoon’s chair.
  • ‘Tell me Yeonjun, how long have you been with Bangtan?’ he asked and I sighed.
  • ‘Over five years now. I was sixteen when I came to join,’ I replied and he smiled.
  • ‘I’ve practically watched you grow from a scrawny teenage boy to a young man,’ he noted and I smiled. ‘Do you remember the reason why you joined Bangtan Yeonjun?’ he asked and I nodded.
  • ‘How could I ever forget hyung?’ I replied as I recalled the very first time I had walked into his office when I was just a little boy looking for answers.
  • *Flashback*
  • 2016
  • I stood shivering and clutching to my wet clothes as I stood in front of Kim mansion, unsure of what to do. I took a deep breath and rang the doorbell.
  • A man appeared in front of me as he looked me up and down. ‘Who the hell are you kid and what are you doing here?’ he asked, his voice gruff.
  • ‘My name is Choi Yeonjun. I would like to talk to Kim Namjoon. He’s the leader of Bangtan right?’ I asked. He scoffed once more as he seemed to study me.
  • ‘Wait here,’ he ordered as he took out his phone. I watched him as he pressed buttons and then put the phone to his ears. ‘Sir, there’s a kid, maybe sixteen or so who wants to talk to you,’ he said.
  • I felt my heart race against my chest as I heard him talk. I waited, patiently even though I felt like I could burst any moment. This could be my chance. I watched as the man nodded before he put his phone away.
  • ‘Do you have any weapons?’ he asked, still with that gruff voice. I gulped as I reached for my pocket.
  • ‘Does a Swiss knife count?’ I asked. He rolled his eyes but took it anyways. He patted me down for safety measures before he motioned for me to follow him. I walked behind him as we made our way through the mansion.
  • ‘Wow, this is a big house,’ I muttered as I rubbed the back of my neck. The man smiled, this time not a smirk.
  • ‘It is a mansion kid,’ he said as he stopped in front of a door. He knocked and I heard a loud voice telling us to go in. The man opened the door and he let me walk in.
  • I saw Namjoon at his desk, some papers in hands as he looked up at me. He looked me at in a way that seemed to be studying me.
  • ‘Thank you Han. You may go back to your post,’ Namjoon said as Han nodded and left the room. ‘Kid, you can come and sit down. I won’t bite,’ he said and I smiled and nodded, probably looking like an * as I did so.
  • ‘Thank you for seeing me,’ I said as I played with my fingers nervously. There was no denying my nerves but who could blame me? I was meeting one of the most known mafia leaders.
  • ‘You seem nervous kid,’ he said and I nodded. ‘No need. You know who I am but what’s your name and how old are you?’ he asked. I gulped, my lips suddenly feeling rather dry.
  • ‘My name is Choi Yeonjun and I am sixteen years old sir,’ I said and he nodded.
  • ‘You’re young. Why are you here? Do not tell me you wish to be involved in this world,’ he said and I sighed.
  • ‘I have to be,’ I said. He arched forward, clearly interested in what I had to say. ‘Eight years ago, my sister was kidnapped by loan sharks who my father owed money to. I…I don’t have much to offer you Mr. Kim but I was hoping I could become a member of Bangtan. I’d work for free for you. You won’t have to pay me or anything but help me try to find my sister in return,’ I said. I knew I sound like I was begging but I did not care.
  • His face softened as he leaned back. ‘You’re doing this to find your sister? Did I understand you correctly Yeonjun?’ he asked and I nodded. ‘Rather noble of you,’ he added.
  • ‘My father owed money because I was sick as a child. My sister got kidnapped because of me. Cops never bothered to do much and they have given up. I don’t know who to turn to,’ I explained.
  • ‘Eight years is a long time Yeonjun. I cannot promise answers or results,’ he said truthfully. He could have lied and strung me along but he didn’t. ‘I do not want to abuse my power and lie to you,’ he said.
  • ‘I know it’s been a long time. I know it’s close to impossible to find her but at least I need to know I tried something,’ I said.
  • ‘Very well,’ he said. ‘There will be rules you will need to follow and we deal with matters of payment too. For now, I want you to tell me everything about your sister,’ he said.
  • ‘Thank you Mr. Kim,’ I said as I bowed a little. ‘Her name is Hanuel, it’s Choi Hanuel,’ I said.
  • *End of Flashback*
  • ‘Yoongi hyung had spent so much time trying to look but we never found anything. It was like she had disappeared,’ I said with a sad sigh.
  • ‘Yeonjun,’ he said making me look up. He looked concerned but also a certain excitement on his face. ‘What if I told you we found your sister?’ he asked.
  • ‘WHAT?’ I asked as I stood up, my heart racing. ‘Are you joking hyung?’ I asked and he shook his head. ‘Where is she? Is she okay? Where can I find her?’ I asked but he motioned for me to sit down.
  • ‘Calm down Yeonjun. It’s a bit more complicated than you might have thought,’ he said as I sat back down.
  • ‘What do you mean hyung? She’s alive right?’ I asked and he nodded. ‘Then that’s all that matters,’ I said.
  • ‘Yeonjun,’ he said, this time a little more sternly.
  • ‘I’m sorry. Tell me,’ I said as I tried to calm myself down. ‘I can handle it hyung,’ I said as I saw him torn.
  • ‘I know you can but I’m not sure about her,’ he said, confusing me even more. ‘Your father might have lied to you about loan sharks taking her,’ he said.
  • ‘What do you mean?’ I asked.
  • ‘I mean your father did owe money to them but the loan sharks are not the one who took your sister,’ he said. ‘Your father had a choice to make. Either all four of you die at the hands of the loan sharks or give up your sister to the Scarlets and everyone lives,’ Namjoon explained.
  • ‘No… no that… that can’t be right,’ I said as I shook my head.
  • ‘Yeonjun,’ Namjoon said, calling me back to reality. ‘I’m sorry to tell you this,’ he said.
  • ‘You….you’re saying my sister is an assassin?’ I asked and he nodded. ‘Wait… wait oh God, it’s…. it’s Cherry, isn’t it?’ I asked and he nodded.
  • ‘Yes. We were talking and she was telling us about her past. I kind of made the connection,’ he explained.
  • ‘She… she was sold to … to the Scarlets be—because of me,’ I stuttered while Namjoon gulped. ‘I walked by her and I did not even realize it was her!’ I yelled.
  • ‘It has been years Yeonjun. Neither of you recognized each other,’ he said, trying to comfort me.
  • ‘I… I need to talk to her. Is she in her room or… or maybe she’s with Yoongi,’ I stuttered.
  • ‘Yeonjun. This is where it might get complicated,’ he said as I looked at him confused. ‘I’m not sure she is fond of the idea of meeting you,’ he said.
  • ‘She must hate me,’ I said as I looked down. ‘But I have to try,’ I said and he nodded.
  • ‘Of course you do. You spent years looking for her so promise me, even if she shuts you out, even if she pushes you or yells at you or says hurtful things, you won’t give up on her. She went through a lot Yeonjun,’ he said.
  • ‘I haven’t given up in all these years. I won’t give up until I have my sister back,’ I said determined.
  • ‘Good boy,’ Namjoon said as he tapped my hand. ‘Also, don’t blame yourself Yeonjun. You were just a kid,’ he said. I just smiled but said nothing.
  • Surprise - double update (even though I'm sleepy haha). Adult life is leaving me tired as heck, especially knowing all the work that is waiting for me tomorrow which is why I tried so hard to finish this. I hope it's up to standards. We got to know that it's Yeonjun who is her brother. We got to know how he became part of Bangtan and this chapter warns us about the possible rocky road for the lost long siblings. I look forward to your comments. - Tae's Misfit
